I have always been fond of food and loved observing any preparation of a dish from inception to the end. I started cooking all by myself post graduation during my first job. It was more of a learning process where it more of like 'Cooking 101'. Now once I had much more experience and started trying out different dishes was when I actually felt the need of a measure. I used a kitchen scale when I started to prepare pasta dishes as it was quite difficult for me to estimate the amount of pasta to be cooked for a single person. From then on, a simple kitchen scale has been very helpful to me while cooking various dishes.
I have also been able to manage portions in a much better way without wastage or overeating.
I would definitely recommend to weigh out the portions before cooking as it gives much clearer idea on not only the quantity or portion size but also helps in maintaining flavor, having a better hold of the cooking process, keeping a check of food items being used, etc.
A kitchen scale is readily available. It is a pretty compact device and you could go for a digital or manual one.
Try using it for a while and hopefully you would see the difference too!
